The Reunion

I was told beware of reunions

Going to meet old companions

How could it be they are friends

Who shared the same hardships

The same dangers and took

the same risks

My closest friend sent apologies

Another had become a drunk

Hidden by his conduct debonair

Attractive ladies had become

Either thin and haggard

or overweight

Altogether a disappointment

We had become different people

I became aware when I perceived

I was the only man wearing a tie

Still smoking a pipe however

Clean shaven in a group of

Varying degrees of hirsutism

We dispersed after the displays

of reminiscense

Old jokes and too many drinks

A repetition was not planned

We had become different people

I became aware when I perceived

I was the only man wearing a tie

Still smoking a pipe however

Clean shaven in a group of

Varying degrees of hirsutism

We dispersed after the displays

of reminiscense

Old jokes and too many drinks

A repetition was not planned
