A passing encounter in the insect world

can have dire effects and in the main

They are essential in the food chain

predators wait the mischance for prey

being unable to avoid capture and death

In the insect world such events

are received with equanimity

and without rancour

The capture of a fly by a spider

allows a greeting and thanks

for providing sustenance

In reply the fly will express regret

by carelessly venturing too close

but at the same time evince

congratulation on gaining

much needed nourishment
