Night
It is night once more
Lights out everywhere
From my window I viewed the lake
which overlooked the water below
the reflected moon stared back
shimmering when a fish rose up
a faint sound of its splashing
then a cloud swept it all away
only the blackness of night
a scent of white lilies below
lent a funereal aspect
I retired to surrender once more
we all need sleep even though
it is a little taste of death
but we are seldom mindful
of its daily occurrence
and significance and mystery
with all its familiarity
in our ignorance
